FlowinIMMO: Videoporträt eines beeindruckenden Künstlers

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Advanced Second Life building strategies

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Yes, building stuff in Second Life can be a complex issue.
“To make this, I used PDFs from our architects as a base to trace all the walls on 11 layers in an Adobe Illustrator file, then exported each floor as an XML-based Scalable Vector Graphics file, each of which I ran through a PHP script to extract the object info and convert it to something I could paste in a notecard. Then I made 11 objects (the little cubes in front of me in the video) that scoot themselves off to a predetermined location, spew out prims based on the notecards, and send them to their appropriate positions. The next step, is to rez this on the ground, terraform, and then texture-bake every single prim…”

Football and movies: 11mm festival in Berlin

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

11mmTwo things people (including me) can be very passionate about: Football and movies. A whole crew of these passionate people now set up a nice movie festival about football which is merely a lense for all kinds of interesting stories, reflections about society and culture.

11mm takes place in Kino Babylon from today on until tuesday, 1st of may. There will be movies for kids, documentations about clubs and players (Zidane, Beckenbauer, Maradona) and fans as well as feature films which use football as a frame for stories about life e.g. in a small Swedish village.

Here’s the whole program, click on the titles to read a description, also in English and Spanish.

Lionel Messi’s wondergoal

Ohne Worte, vorgestern passiert.

Gol de Messi al Getafe 18/04/07

Messis Kommentar dazu: “Ich habe einfach gesehen, dass da Platz war“. Achso, ja richtig, da war Platz. Da standen nicht etwa SECHS Gegenspieler im Weg..

Time for some grime: Roll Deep – Rules and regulations

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Roll Deep CrewRoll Deep is probably the most famous Grime crew – Dizzie Rascal was part of it, Whiley still is and they are deeply connected with the pirate radio scene. But despite having sold 60000 units of their first album “In at the deep end” so far, and playing liveshows with people like Snoop Dogg in the UK, Asia, Europe, e.g. Grimetime in Berlin, nobody there can afford a us-rapstarlike lifestyle – the 13 members predominantly still live in East-London’s housing estate “The estate”. Still. That might change. (Click for their new video)

Because they are about to release their second album “Rules and regulations”, distributed mainly on their Myspacesite. And again they manage to combine this typical grime flow with tales from the streets and melodies that stick. They sport many different talents on entertaining tracks (beyond them: Scratchy, one of the few white grime MCs which makes for some nice target group optimization.. No offence, he’s good!) So this is their new single “Celebrate that”:

Update: Prancehall (aka the “Terry Richardson of Grime”) was at the shoot for the video and tells a little something about what was going on behind the scenes.

Roll Deep are aware of the responsibility popular musicians have towards their own fans: Especially in the face of the growing violence in the UK, their video “Bad man” is a documentary-like focus on the suburbian situation when guns, frustration and heated up situations come to a bad end. Here’s the making of:

Und noch ein bisschen deutscher Kulturjournalismus – Here’s a nice visit in Eastlondon, a journey to the Roll Deep studio and their hood “The estate”: Roll deep in London by Süddeutsche (in German)

Tony Royster Jr.’s Amazing Drumsolo

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

This video is already a classic on Youtube and one of the most viewed music clips. Little kids come to their teachers with this, wanting to play like little Tony Royster who was apparently only 12 years old when he played this solo. Since then, 10 years have passed, Tony has received many awards for his drumming and now plays with a rock group called Lazy Eye.

Berlinale Talent Campus and Scientology in Berlin

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Click Clack ClackI wrote an article about Scientology on Potsdamer Platz for Hauptstadtblog which has been linked to from different sites and has some nice comments on.

On Berlinale, I visited the Talent Campus and saw the movies that have been produced within the last four days. An exciting and very succesful experiment: Directors, writers, actors, cinematographers, editors and so on organized the projects almost entirely over the internet, you can read their public discussions on the projects site. They come from all over the world, finally met at Berlinale and each team had only one day in the Garage studio to produce a short movie. Be sure to check out my favourite “Click-Clack-Clack” and read the whole story (in German) on the Berlinaleblog.

JoinR and Kitchen Beatbox

Monday, February 12th, 2007

JoinR is a new social network which has an intriguing surface, very ajaxy, you can play with boxes and mash up your profile. Let’s see who’ll be hanging out there. Check it out: Joinr.de. I, of course am stylewalker.joinr.de, but have no fancy profile yet.
Note: It’s early beta and obviously aimed at younger people (I feel old).

And here you’ll see UK’s master of the mouthmade beats, Maité, playing around with some kitchenwear and sounds á la “Memphs Soul Stew”.
